Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a challenging season, managing just one match at the big events and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the elite rankings and ultimately splitting with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has consistently improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Moutet.

This marks his initial championship after the Italian tournament and first on a hardcourt after spring of 2023.

The win also means he has achieved 21 championships at 21 various tournaments.

"For the first time I'm at a tournament with my both daughters at once, so to get a title is particularly special," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in dedication of my younger daughter my daughter, because the maiden victory I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six finals, including in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had prompted observers to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was concluded.

But the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, attempting to advance forward and perform aggressively, backed up by an improved service.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The competitors traded breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his initial professional title, gained dominance to create a third set.

He saved 4 initial opportunities in a close third set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, he secured the win with a shot at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to control a volley after a lengthy match.
